Valentino Rossi's fast has been going on for more than a year, the Doctor's last win dates back to Barcelona in 2016 while this year things went very differently for him in Catalunya. At the same time, Montmelò may represent a turning point in his season.
We're talking about the two-day test, during which Valentino tested a new frame, built according to his specifications. Initial sensations proved positive, with Rossi commenting: "if I had to race tomorrow, I'd use it. He will therefore test it again over the weekend at Assen, a magical track for him.
Rossi was won nine times in Holland, twice in the last four years, so it's the right place for a relaunch.
"I‘m happy to go to Assen, especially after the two days of testing we did in Barcelona following such a bad race - recalls the Doctor - During the test we have tried some interesting solutions and now I want to try them at another track to see if we‘re going in the right direction.
The track will provide the answers he's looking for.
"This is always a great weekend, because the Assen circuit is very nice. I hope to be competitive in Assen because I would like to make it a good race", he states.
VINALES: WE NEED A PODIUM - Vinales too is champing a the bit, still leading the championship but with Dovizioso now very close, just 7 points behind. Maverick needs to responds and he's well aware of this.
"Assen is a good circuit for the YZR-M1 and also for my riding style it‘s quite good. I've been doing really good races there in the past. I like it and I always enjoy riding here - he explains - After the difficult race in Catalunya we arrive in Assen extra motivated because we really need to be on the podium and take as many points as possible. We can‘t afford to struggle in the next races."
