Sunday's race proved to be a disappointing one for Andrea Iannone, but the Italian rider isn't about to give him. He was back on the Suzuki on Monday for the first day of testing, finishing fourteenth. He also had a new frame to test. His face shows a certain confidence.

What have you been working on today?

“We reused the material already evaluated in the past to be sure we're going in the right direction, confirming our choices”.

Today there was a new frame to test.

“With the evolved frame I only completed a few laps. It's not so different from the other one, they're both quite similar – he revealed - we'll continue to work tomorrow and try to improve. Personally I think it's too early to say – he added - as I only made one exit. As I've said, it's similar to the previous one and might be something positive”.

Back to Sunday's race, do you think the gap is real or to be taken with a pinch of salt?

I think the Suzuki has a very good base – he commented - unfortunately I can't brake as I want to, as I would risk crashing. We can see this from the data, we also suffer from sliding. But I know I have a bike that turns well and we need to continue on this path”.

People are asking how long it will be before we see a competitive bike.

Let's wait for Tuesday's test, we have a lot still to work on – he pointed out - then we'll go to Holland and will understand our level. We're definitely suffering with the high temperatures and different tyres at each race though, but this is the same for all riders. I think it's a general annoyance, testing before a race might be an advantage – he proposed - carrying out work in preparation for the Grand Prix”.

It can't be an easy time for a rider like Iannone.

“It's not easy. I'm amazed though, because in the past I wouldn't have dealt with a situation like this so calmly. I think I've improved, dealing with things in the best way possible, I think I've matured in this respect. Before I was on edge, I'd get angry, I was a disaster (he smiles)”.

In addition to Iannone, Alex Rins is also on track. The last time we saw him was at Austin, after which injury has had him on the sidelines for almost two months. Riding the GSX-RR used in the last three races by Guintoli, the Spaniard completed 62 laps, closing seventeenth.

I'm very pleased with the test – commented the rider - even though we didn't test some of the available material. Perhaps the most complicated thing was to find a rhythm, but I'm happy because at long last my hand is no longer painful”.

His face shows a certain confidence.

The main aim was to find confidence with the bike– he analysed - this is why I completed many laps, despite the asphalt not being the best. Tomorrow we'll be back on track to work on the set-up”.
