MotoGP, Goubert: "Michelin wants to beat records"

"The 70  tyre has proved to be more highly performing than we thought, at Barcelona the tyres will be able to adapt to any condition"

MotoGP: Goubert: "Michelin wants to beat records"

One of the many points of interest over the Mugello weekend was the return of the 70 tyre, much discussed over the last month. The tyre with the harder carcass, used during the Jerez test, was voted for by the majority of the riders at Le Mans, before being reintroduced at the Italian GP.

In the Tuscan hills, Andrea Dovizioso scored the win, ahead of Maverick Vinales and Danilo Petrucci. A race that saw the three riders opt for different tyres prior to the start. While the Ducati factory rider went for the medium tyre, the Spaniard selected the hard, and Petrucci went with a hard at the front and medium at the rear.

The three riders provided the Michelin technicians with positive feedback, something that Nicolas Goubert is pleased about: “We are very happy with the performance of the tyre with the harder carcass at Mugello – commented the manager – the tyre worked and the riders did well to adapt, proving to be very fast over the weekend”.

The work for Michelin continues to evolve: “We are trying to improve performance, particularly after last year's feedback – continued Goubert – our goal is to set new performance records with the tyre and take further steps”.

Now attention has already turned to Catalunya, in less than seven days' time. "We have collected some interested data at Barcelona recently and so we know what to expect - he concluded - the tyres will be able to cope with any kind of situation, and on the Monday post-race we will test in order to collect further information."
