MotoGP, Iannone does not surrender: "I won't give up"

Tenth place for Andrea after a race riddled with difficulties for him and team Suzuki: "But we have the skills to improve and we will do so soon"

MotoGP: Iannone does not surrender: "I won't give up"

It was not the brightest Italian Grand Prix of Andrea Iannone’s career: besides the thirteenth place earned in his rookie MotoGP season, 2013, the Italian rider has always brought home interesting results, with two prestigious podiums in 2015 and 2016.

His tenth place finish today, therefore, does not thrill the rider from Vasto who was also battling with a less than ideal physical condition: “I definitely did not have optimum strength, but it would not have changed much - Andrea admits – I was not at 100% fitness after a really hard weekend, but in the race I was more or less okay.”

You certainly were aiming for better results on this track…

“Yes and I am sorry because in the last two seasons I was on the podium at Mugello and I rode fantastic races. Last year I finished the championship with a third place in Valencia after an incredible battle. This is a truly difficult situation for me to accept, because I am used to decidedly different results than this tenth place.”

In what areas does your Suzuki need to improve?

With the new tyres we are able to battle well, but when the tyres wear the struggles begin. The rear tyre slides a lot and it is hard to control the bike’s reactions. That is why we must improve electronics management. But not only that: we are also losing in acceleration and braking. I think that we on team Suzuki have the foundation and the skills to be able to recover and we will do so.”

As early as Barcelona?

“The Barcelona race may be early to start closing the gap behind our rivals, but I am a rider. I hope to improve as soon as possible, because I will continue to work. I won’t give up.”
