MotoGP: Viñales: The crash? Lucky I wasn't hurt

Mugello is unforgiving and Viñales experienced this first hand today, crashing as he braked going into Arrabbiata 2, a spot where the riders arrive at almost 118 mph and then slow down to about 103. In braking, Maverick lost the front, tumbling violently into the escape lane.

Considering the crash, I am well and was really lucky except for a few knocks - the Spaniard reassured - I braked on the kerb and that is a critical point. I lost the front end.

The time it took to change leathers, and Viñales was right back in the saddle in FP2, even if he was unable to improve. In the afternoon, he finished in 13th place, but thanks to the time he did in the morning, he is 5th in the combined standings.

I got on the other bike and it was slightly different and had a full tank, but I was still able to lap at 1’48” - he explained - In any case, the M1 works well on this track and I especially like the way the soft tyre performs on the front. I am using the Le Mans settings and I feel good. My pace is already good.

In the Yamaha camp they are doing some aerodynamic experiments, using the ‘wide’ fairing, but without the internal spoilers.

“I don’t have any particular problems on the downhill at the end of the straight. Even without winglets there are no big changes, but I must say that the M1 is a very stable bike - he said - If anything, there are some problems because of the bumps in the asphalt, the bike jumps around especially on the last turn. It is something we will need to discuss.
