MotoGP: Guintoli: "Superbike should follow MotoGP's example"

Alex Rins was also on hand to watch Sylvain Guintoli’s first ever time astride the Suzuki. The Le Mans round is a special one for the Frenchman, who has the task of subbing for the Spaniard, injured a month ago in Texas.

In addition to the French round, the BSB rider will also be at Mugello and Catalunya until Rins returns in Assen. Getting back to the present and looking at the qualifying times, Sylvain will start from the 23rd spot on the grid tomorrow behind Tito Rabat.

“This weekend is not easy since there are particular weather conditions like cold and rain, but also mixed in with sunshine. Unfortunately, it is not easy, but I think I have the right confidence despite this being my first time with rain tyres.”

What sensations did you have with the Suzuki?

“The bike is very nice. I would have needed a bit more time to understand the tyres, but I am satisfied.”

In BSB there are simpler bikes and less electronics. Is that the direction to go in SBK?

They should follow the MotoGP path. I think that is the example the works. Doing something similar in Superbike would not be a stupid thing.”

How do you like this new Championship?

“It is very different. The tracks are different and maybe more dangerous. There are a lot of fast riders, especially the ones that have a lot of experience on the local track. An example is Haslam or Ellison. I must say that the top fifteen are truly competitive.”

BSB, MotoGP or SBK. What would you choose?

I have had a lot of experience and I drew a lot of satisfaction from Superbike, where I know the tracks well. We’ll see.”
