MotoGP: Marquez promotes the 2016 tyre: "Better in braking"

Just two thousandths of a second separate Marc Marquez from the best time set on Monday. The five-time champion worked with the old tyre, obtaining positive sensations, particularly when it comes to braking.

“I'm pleased with today's test, we've completed many laps and have tried different things. The set-up left me with positive sensations. We've taken steps forward, especially with the old tyres, I worked with the hard rear solution”.

What do you think about the 2016 Michelin tyre?

“I prefer the old carcass used at Valencia. I prefer it in terms of braking, in fact the bike offers better stability.  I don't mind the current tyre either though, we'll see what the other riders say”.

Has anything change with respect to race day?

“We've tested various set-up and tyre solutions. I felt stronger in terms of pace today, perhaps the others did too. Yesterday the hard tyre proved to be high performing, I suffered too much with the front maybe. The old tyre would have been better, but I only used one to not get used to others”

What about the exhaust test?

“It's a good job I didn't use it during the weekend, because the test took too much time. It's the first time I've tested it and the team has done a great job. We need to see whether we'll use it at Le Mans or not”.

Monday's test confirmed Dani Pedrosa's potential. The Spaniard, having won on Sunday, closed the day's test in third place. Unlike Marc, #26 prefers to continue on the same path with regard to the front tyre.

“Conditions were perfect, very similar to yesterday, so it was easy to test the material we had available. I used the two different tyres, medium and hard, and they were both quite positive. We also made some improvements in terms of the electronics”.

Old or new tyre?

“For now I prefer the current one. When I used the 2016 tyre, I felt strong in some places but less so in others. I also had to change the balance, I can't give a more detailed idea though. At the start of the season I was struggling, now I can be confident”.

What about the electronics?

“I 've noted some improvements already since Austin, though there's still a lot to do. The track was perfect today and it will be key to see how things are at Le Mans. We'll need to control the asphalt, any bumps, and the grip”.

Is there much difference between Sunday and Monday?

“I don't think there's a big difference between the test and the race weekend. The team has helped me a lot, we can definitely collect more information, as we have chance to compare our work with those of the others”.
