MotoGP, Espargarò: "With the old tyre I would have been more competitive"

Aleix promotes the harder Michelin carcass at the end of testing: "The Aprilia has proved to be more stable at the front"

MotoGP: Espargarò:

Sunday at Jerez left a bitter taste for Aleix Espargarò and Aprilia. After Monday's test however, the Spaniard has got his smile back. Thanks to the old Michelin tyres and the fourth fastest time ahead of the Ducatis of Dovizioso and Lorenzo.

“The most important thing was to work on front stability with regard to braking, as we've struggled so far this season. I also had change to evaluate the old, harder Michelin carcass”.

What were your impressions?

“I think it's better, as the Aprilia seems much more stable. It's been a good test, especially in terms of our pace compared to yesterday with the high temperatures”.

It wasn't so simple over the weekend...

“Unfortunately we really suffered on Saturday and Sunday with the softer carcass. In comparing them, last year's offers more stability, I felt more confident with it”.

Is there such a difference?

“Not really, but the sensations are slightly better. I'm referring to how I feel when I take the turns or in braking”.

So will you focus on this tyre for the rest of the season?

“I will have to speak with the Michelin technicians of course, as it's important to test it on other occasions and hear what the other riders think”.

How do you sum up the day?

“We've worked to better understand bike behaviour in terms of load transfer. I think the Aprilia is strong in braking, but it's still struggling too much when I come off the brake”.
