The Spanish Marc VDS rider wins, profiting from Morbidelli's crash. A first podium for Bagnaia, third for Oliveira. Pasini and Marini in the top five

Moto2: Historic win by Alex Marquez at Jerez, Bagnaia 2nd

He hadn't won since the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix, the year he lifted the Moto3 title: Alex Marquez is back to winning ways, and he triumphs at his home track of Jerez. The Spaniard, having practically dominated every practice session, was able to achieve his first Moto2 win, riding his Marc VDS Kalex to success: “I couldn't have imagined my first Moto2 win - said a smiling Alex- and to do it at Jerez! I maintained my pace for the whole race, winning. I dedicate this result to my mum”.

A crash for Franco Morbidelli helped Marquez. The championship leader made a mistake, crashing as he entered turn 9. He returned to the garage on his Kalex, having lost out on important points.

An exceptional race, and significant points, for Francesco Bagnaia who crossed the line second after making a perfect start and a series of decisive passes. The SKY VR46 rookie is increasingly confident on his Honda CBR-powered Kalex and this result at Jerez confirms this. A pity for Mattia Pasini: the Italtrans rider missed out on third place in the final stages, with Oliveira taking the final step of the podium, increasingly competitive with the KTM and now third in the championship.

Pasini was folloed by a very fast Luca Marini, who did well to defend himself from rivals Schrotter, Aegerter and Luthi. Ninth for Yonny Hernandez, who worked his way up the field, Lorenzo Baldassarri closed in eleventh place behind Axel Pons.

Championship standings: Morbidelli 75, Luthi 64, Oliveira 59.
