Yet another double for the Kawasaki KRT team, with all-round success: the double win for Rea in the two Dutch races with the top two podium spots occupied by Johnny, who extends his championship lead, and Tom Sykes, so close to victory in race two. For the current champion, this is his seventh consecutive win with the ZX10RR at Assen, while he scored a total of 11 victories in Holland if we include the 4 previous wins on the Honda CBR.
A seventh win in eight races for the #1 rider, who today completed his 200th SBK race: “I'm really pleased with how the Dutch weekend has gone, starting with Superpole - stated Rea- because that was the best lap I've ever completed in my career. In race two my biggest proble was the strong win, which got me into trouble at turn 11 when my foot came off the footpeg”.
But Rea knew exactly how to react, adopting the right tactic: “after the bike gave me a first sign in the first part of the race, i decided to hold back and safe the best for the final laps. At the final corner I held a cautious line, not the quickest, but the one that would best cover me from any possible attack. Winning twice at Assen makes me feel like I've done it at my home track".
Tom Sykes came close to victory today, missing out by just 0.025 of a second, on the finish line itself: “of course I wanted to win here at Assen - revealed Tom- but, considering my physical conditions in recent days, if you'd told me I'd get two second places here, I'd never have thought it possible”.
Sykes is now second in the championship, confirming the total domination of the KRT team: “I must thank the whole team for how they've worked on my ZX10RR; today it was working really well and I came close to the win. The race setting we found was perfect, I felt I could win today”.
