Second Superpole of the season for the fledgling Supersport 300 class, the “entry level” category for the factory derivatives, a preparatory level where bikes with high semi-handlebars can be admired, reminiscent of the first Superbikes from the late ’80s - early ’90s.

In the cool air of Assen, among crashes and contact between riders, the hottest of them all was Spaniard Borja Sanchez with his Yamaha R3 who did a time of 1’53”814, setting the new bar for this category on the Dutch lap. Behind the Spaniard, the second best time went to hometown hero, Dutchman Scott Deroue, winner of the first race in Aragon: his gap behind Sanchez was 443 thousandths, despite riding with a fractured right ankle.

Third place went to Italian Paolo Grassia of team Kawasaki 3570 Made in CIV who managed to get out of the dense Dutch traffic. On the second row of the starting grid, in order, are Spaniard Perez, Ukrainian Kalinin and another Italian, Alfonso Coppola with an R3 from Iwata.

Italian rider De Gruttola is on the first spot of the third row, with Dutchman De Bruin eighth and another Italian, Bastianelli, ninth. South African rider Loureiro is tenth astride his Ninja 300 ahead of Schotman, another hometown hero, and British rider Taylor.

Former Moto3 rider, Ana Carrasco, finished with an excellent thirteenth time, whereas Kenan Sofuoglu’s pupil, Kabuk, earned twenty-third place, just ahead of Armando Pontone. Another young lady finished thirty-fifth, New Zealander Avalon Biddle astride her Kawasaki.
