There is little to salvage in this Austin GP for Iannone up to now. On Saturday morning he crashed along with many others in FP3 and he took another slide in qualifying. Andrea will start from the 11th spot on the grid and catching up seems to be anything but a simple undertaking.

It went really badly and I am very sorry. To be honest, nothing is working right now - he admits wryly - I lost confidence and that makes things even more difficult.

How does one react in these situations?
I know that I must not give up, but sometimes you feel like the world is crashing down all around you and I am feeling the blow. However, I am sure that we will manage to improve.

What are the problems?
I lose the front all the time. I hope that the 2016 tyre we try in Jerez can help. Right now I am living a nightmare: the bike slides around a lot in acceleration and then I am unable to stop it in the braking sections.

Did the conditions in the morning make the situation worse?
I felt like I was riding on ice, whereas on Friday the higher temperatures were better. I thought I had good potential, except for Viñales and Marquez, the others were not far off. I hope it will be hot for the race.

What can you aim for in the race?
I’ll try another setup and then I’ll try to battle for the top 8 positions. It is not my goal, but right now that’s the way things are going.

Are you expecting anything new from Suzuki?
Some innovations will arrive for the Jerez tests and we will continue trying to improve.
