MotoGP, Pernat: "a miraculous Rossi, with no tricks or mistakes"

"Vinales on course for the title, Marquez wanted to show he's king but he went over the limit, making a mistake, unfair penalty for Iannone"

MotoGP: Pernat: "a miraculous Rossi, with no tricks or mistakes"

Marquez falls, Vinales thanks him and takes the win, ahead of a Rossi who undergoes a transformation come Sunday. Yamaha leaves Rio Hondo with a 1-2. There is joy in their camp, but disappointment and bitterness for Honda and Ducati, both ruled out of the game ahead of time in South America. Here's Carlo Pernat's take on what went down at Rio Hondo, in a race that only sixteen riders managed to complete.

Let's start with that fourth tyre prepared by Michelin but then left unused

“He who lives by the tyre, dies by the tyre. I don't think there's any better definition. After the chaos on Friday, in terms of not testing the fourth tyre, the tyre gods punished those who were against this operation”.

Vinales didn't take any prisoners anyway.

“Maverick is stellar, he is now becoming the favourite for the title. He's incredible, he was consistently up front, from first practice until the race. Something like this has never happened, the Yamaha is made to measure this young man”.

Rossi undergoes a transformation on Sunday.

“Vale made a great recovery, but we can't say that he did miracles with the tyre, as some think. His miracle was that he rode well, sorting the bike during warm-up, for everyone to see, without any glitches. He proved to be a rider who can always aim for the podium, the age shown on his ID card is misleading”.

A black Sunday for Marquez and Honda.

“Definitely a bad Sunday. he probably won't say it but with this tyre Marc has various problems at the front. In the race, he wanted to prove to Vinales that he is king, but he went over the limit. At the same corner as Pedrosa in fact”.

There were various surprises at Rio Hondo. What do you think?

"It was a race between those on the second row, but that's not correct either, as Zarco and Bautista, Petrucci and Folger were also fast".

We've mentioned Honda. It didn't go any better for the Borgo Panigale guys.

“A disappointing Sunday for Ducati. Lorenzo opened the throttle rather than closing it, hitting Iannone, luckily nothing serious happened. Dovizioso was as unlucky as he was last year in Texas”.

What do you think about Iannone's ride through?

“I think it was an absurd penalty, seeing as Andrea didn't gain any positions off the line. he was also hit by Lorenzo which put him back to seventeenth, having started twelfth. I asked race direction for clarification, I've been told the regulation needs to be modified in this respect”.
