Few would have expected Alvaro Bautista to be fourth over the line under the chequered flag at Termas de Rio Hondo, and yet the Spaniard succeeded in this undertaking. And we do not say this to diminish Alvaro, who is also a world champion, but if anything to highlight his outstanding performance astride last year’s Ducati; all of this in a race where many of the top riders made mistakes, some more blatant than others.

“It was a good race – Bautista begins – a bit like the final races of the season last year, where I was able to catch up starting from behind. At the beginning of the race I lost time since everyone was trying to stay out front and I found myself in a group with some difficult riders to overtake. Once their pace dropped I was able to pass them and I was also even faster that the riders I had ahead of me. In the finale I had even hoped to close the gap, but it wasn’t possible because I had lost too much time at the beginning.”

This is a race that gives number 19 a big morale boost, throwing down the gauntlet for the upcoming rounds, where he does not want to release the position he earned in Argentina.

“I feel like I am a rider who can achieve these results. These are realistic positions for me, so we need to continue in this direction. The team did a great job this weekend and I would like to thank them.”
