SBK, Rea: "Congratulations to Davies. Pleased with myself and the bike"

The Northern Irish rider explains: "The wind didn't help me today and Chaz had stronger pace. I've scored 45 points and am pleased. Sykes more disappointed: "A surreal weekend, I gave it my all but I didn't have the right strength or harmony with the bike"

He came extremely close to making it six out of six but it still turned out to be a very positive weekend for Jonathan Rea at Aragon. The world champion still took the most points, with a win and a second place, and so leaves Motorland with a 50-point lead over Chaz Davies. Essentially, he could sit out for a round and still wouldn't lose his championship lead.

Focusing on race 2, the Northern Irishman explains: “I was able to get into the leading group quite early on, but I couldn't relax even for a minute as the wind along the straight kept the group together. When Chaz arrived and passed me I realised he had slightly better pace than me, so i tried to push to stick with him; he made a few mistakes but nothing that would allow me to get by”

On the last lap Johnny played all his cards.

“On the final lap I really battled, trying in a few places but it didn't work. We can't complain though because we were really fast in some sections. I want to congratulate Chaz because after yesterday's crash it wasn't easy to be so fast and win. In general, I'm pleased because we've scored 45 points and the bike worked really well, allowing me to be fast even if I wasn't feeling the best physically."

Tom Sykes' weekend was spent more in the shadows than in the light, and he is left disappointed by his fourth place finish today. “I thought I'd feel better today but the situation has only got worse as I haven't eaten a thing. We were close to the front, but the strong wind today meant I wasn't comfortable on the bike. Also, I didn't have constant load at the front, and this is something we need to work on during tomorrow's test”.

Tomorrow the Kawasaki team will stay at Aragon for a day of testing. Overall, #66 was not satisfied with his performance this weekend: “I wasn't operating at 100% with the bike, and being ill meant that my mind wasn't working as fast as usual. It was a surreal weekend, I have it my all, but didn't race at full strength".
