SBK, Davies beats Rea in Race 2, Melandri third

The Welshman fights back to score his first win of the season, Sykes 4th, followed by van der Mark e Forés

SBK: Davies beats Rea in Race 2, Melandri third

He headed out on track intent on making up for Saturday's crash. This time Chaz Davies didn't disappoint, scoring his first win of 2017 and putting an end to Johnny Rea's domination, after his run of five consecutive wins. A thrilling final, just like Race 1, with the Welshman and the Northern Irishmen in the lead roles.

The battle was not for the faint-hearted; though Rea could have chosen to settle, the desire for a sixth win was too strong. He tried until the very last corner, before giving way to his rival, who pushed his way past through the last chicane to snatch the win: “It was a difficult race, from start to end– commented Davies - the wind also made things tough, in terms of controlling the bike. When I lost the lead I was able to manage my pace– he added - yesterday was a disaster, but today I'm happy”.

There's disappointment on Rea's race:It was a great race, I would have liked to win again but I'm satisfied – commented the number one – unfortunately I wasn't in great shape, I hope things are different at Assen”.

Marco Melandri is also back on the podium. The Italian tried to stick with the leading pair, but in the end had to settle for third: “The soft tyre was the right choice – he explained -  I felt competitive while behind Johnny”. Then he started to have some problems: “Unfortunately I had to deal with understeer – he revealed - then I made a mistake along the straight. We need to take one more step”.

Sykes just missed the podium, fourth ahead of the Yamaha of van der Mark. Sixth for Forés, not in the best shape after being burned during yesterday's race. Torres, Mercado, Laverty and Camier completed the top ten.
