The Northern Irishman reveals: "Chaz is still the favourite on this track, but the Kawasaki is more competitive than it was last season"

SBK: Rea: "Davies? Now I can stop him at Aragón"

He could not have asked for more. The Friday of the Aragón weekend highlighted the potential of Johnny Rea and his Kawasaki. The Northern Irishman proved to be uncatchable on the flying lap and especially in terms of race pace, doing nineteen laps at a low 1’51”. This is a clear sign of what can be expected for the qualifiers and Race 1 tomorrow. Now a response from Davies is expected.

“I must say that I am quite satisfied because I got the answer I was looking for. Maybe the weather affected our performance a bit in the finale, but I was able to be competitive, lapping at 1’50” and a low 1’51”.”

What did you work on today?

“In the morning I used the settings from the first race in Australia, but I realized that that wasn’t the right way to go. In fact, I needed a more agile bike that would give me more confidence going into corners. So we went back to the one we had used in the November tests, also focusing on the frame. The Kawasaki was competitive, but we still have more work to do for tomorrow.”

Not even the rain could stop you.

“Unfortunately, a few drops of water began to fall as FP2 was ending, but the track wasn’t wet. I even saw that Melandri and Lowes improved their times, so I decided to go out and attack. In the end it went well, given the fact that I finished at the top of the session.”

Davies came to Aragón as the favourite. Can he be stopped?

Of course. Chaz has proven to be a very fast rider on this track, but the team and I got off on the right foot today. He is certainly still the man to beat, despite having finished this afternoon with the fourth best time.”
