It will be his twelfth season in the world championship and expectations are high. A little over ten days before the start of the season, Dani Pedrosa summarises the situation in the Honda camp, talking about his motivation, the bike's potential and the favourites for the title, including Maverick Vinales.
How are you feeling ahead of this championship?
“The right word is “excted”. I'm enthuastic about going to Qatar and really want to do my best.”
And the Honda?
“It's a bike in continuous evolution, the aim is to find the right balance with the rider. That's where we're focusing our efforts”.
Compared to 2015, where are you with the electronics?
“It depends on many things. It's a different ECU for the bike and riders”.
How have you adapted to the Michelins?
“I've always had the right level of confidence with these tyres. Despite some initial problems, I think I'm constantly improving”.
Will these be the key elements this season?
“Without a shadow of a doubt, particularly considering the very slight difference between the riders”.
What is the level of the MotoGP?
"The category continues to be the maximum expression of bikes and riders. In recent years it's been able to collect world champions across different categories and generations”.
Who are the favourites for the title?
“The same group, with the unknown that is Vinales. A lot will depend on how he manages the pressure. There's a difference between being a surprise winner and being obliged to win”.
You've shared the garage with Marquez for four years. What have you learned from him?
“Many things, but I'm careful, I keep them to myself (he smiles)”.
During these winter tests, have you come across Lorenzo and Vinales on track?
“I haven't yet had chance to make a comparison with them, as I was focusing on my own work. I've seen their times and they're competitive”.
