Qatar is the place for firsts for Lorenzo: “Yesterday I had led in the standings for the first time with Ducati and today I crashed for the first time” the Majorcan jokes about his harmless slide. Nothing serious – if anything, his mind is focused on other items with the first race drawing ever nearer.
The standings are not particularly smiling on the Majorcan, lying 8th at just 9 tenths of a second behind Viñales, but he had other priorities on the second day of tests.
“Today I worked on a different setting to improve entering corners, nothing too terribly big - he explains - Plus, along with Marquez, I was the only one who did not put on the soft tyre that helped a lot to lower the times in these conditions, so I will have something more tomorrow. Besides the time, it was a positive day. I did better than on other tracks.”
For Lorenzo, the goal is to adapt more and more to the Desmosedici and at the same time to bring it closer to his tastes. For this reason, Jorge did not use the new fairing today.
“We decided to test it tomorrow so that we could focus on the setup today - he confirms – I will probably do a race simulation. It will be quite important in order to understand the tyres. Today it was hard to evaluate my pace because I used hard tyres the whole time and it wasn’t easy to go fast with those low temperatures. Tomorrow I’ll be able to focus on the soft tyres because they seem to be an option for the race.”
Testing time is almost over and the Spaniard draws his initial conclusions.
“I expected a very powerful bike and that’s what I found. I expected a different bike and it is far more different than I thought it would be - he admits - But I am improving every day in one way or another. Today I improved in the braking phase, although not as much as I would have liked. It is hard work, but it will pay off in the future.”
