MotoGP, Iannone: I can't exploit the new tyre

More problems for Andrea with the flying lap: "I'm quicker on used tyres. The front closes, I'm confident ahead of the race weekend"

MotoGP: Iannone: I can't exploit the new tyre

The standings haven't rewarded Iannone and the Suzuki on day two of testing at Qatar either. Despite Andrea's best efforts, he didn't move beyond 12th place today, more than one second from Vinales. A complicated situation, that the Italian doesn't believe really reflects the potential of his GSX-RR.

All in all, I'm feeling positive, I'm confident about the race weekend, I hope it all goes better then” he smiles.

The reason for this hope soon becomes clear: the Suzuki has good race pace, but is unable to express itself in terms of the flying lap.

I did better than yesterday, in terms of pace particularly, because I am unable to improve my time with the new tyre - explains Iannone - my best laps have been done on used tyres, when I put in fresh ones I have problems that prevent me from properly exploiting them”.

Andrea tried to carry out a time attack, but without success.

I tried - he confirms - In the end I was in line with Valentino up until the third sector, then I lost half a second in the final part compared to my best time on used rubber. The front keeps closing on me and I struggle to be fast through the long turns”.

The problem is well-known and Iannone sums it up simply: “we have a lot of grip at the rear and so the rear pushed on the front, causing it to close”. He still has a day to try and solve the issue, or at least limit it.
