SBK, Rea-Davies controversy: post-race tension

Johnny states: "Kawasaki and Ducati the same speed", Chaz: "Not true, if you want I'll show you the data"

SBK: Rea-Davies controversy: post-race tension

Their battle continued after the chequered flag was waved. Johnny Rea and Chaz Davies had just concluded the traditional Dorna post-race interviews, when they found themselves in the press room surrounded by journalists.

They are just a few metres from each other when Rea, questionned about the Kawasaki's top speed stated: “If you compare our top speed to that of the Ducati you'll see that they are similar”. Annoyed, Chaz Davies intervened: “The Kawasaki has greater top speed, if you want I'll show you the times and you'll see it's not like you say”.  The two looked at each other and Rea replied: “I doubt it”.

Chaz chose not to say anything more on the subject. Unlike the Northern Irishman, he'd already completed his interviews and left the press room. One thing is certain though: the performance in terms of speed between Kawasaki and Ducati are still a hot topic, and one that's not about to die down.

It might only be the first race of the season, but there is already tension in the air. Tomorrow's second race will see them go head to head once more, also sharing the same row on the grid. The Ducati rider will start from eighth place, alongside the current world champ, ninth.
