SBK, Forés: "I didn't have the experience to reach the podium"

Camier and the MV Agusta stand out: "I didn't want to take any risks, we're still suffering in terms of reliability"

SBK: Forés: "I didn't have the experience to reach the podium"

He had very different ambitions, particularly after what we'd seen earlier this week. Xavi Forés was a favourite for the podium, but in the end he had to settle for sixth place, leaving him a little disappointed. A crash this morning further complicated matters.

“In the Superpole I was sure I could be on the first or second row. Unfortunately the mistake cost me dearly”.

What happened?

On my out lap Chaz and Johnny were behind me, wanting to use my slipstream so I slowed down. The tyre cooled down and when I needed to push to set the time I could feel I didn't have the right confidence and crashed”.

At certain points you were up there with the leaders, then you had to reduce your pace.

“I was able to make a great start, but then I didn't manage the race as I wanted. I stayed behind them to conserve the tyre for the final stages. In the group I was in we were holding each other up. I think I'm still missing a little experience, but I'm pleased because we are consistently right behind the quickest guys".

In race 2 the grid will be reversed.

“Tomorrow I'll start third and that will be a help. Of course the race is long and with Rea and Davies' pace it will be complicated. In the initial laps I'll try to stick with the front guys, managing the tyres for the end”.

With a little more experience, you could have reached the podium.

“Definitely, I realised that when I was behind them”.

Ahead of the Spaniard was the MV Agusta of Leon Camier. The English rider is looking for consistency, having left the bike's reliability issues behind. Once he qualified for Superpole 2, he didn't hold back.

“This track is different to the others. I tried to stay close to the leaders, but at the same time I was thinking about tyre wear. I didn't want to take any risks. Tomorrow it will be different, because I've better understood the tyre now and will push from the start”.

The MV suffers a little too much in terms of reliability.

Unfortunately we had the same problem today. We reset everything and started again, finding the right confidence straight away”.

How much of a bearing do these issues have on the rider?

“It makes a real difference, because when you go out on track you need to have a clear mind. In the afternoon things improved and I had more confidence”.

Tomorrow you'll start from the front. Are you thinking about the podium?

It would be a miracle. Unfortunately I don't think it's possible, considering the level of our rivals. We have to continue working, focusing on the frame in particular”.
