MotoGP: Pierer: KTM likes beating the Japanese

For KTM, MotoGP is not just a challenge, but also a significant effort both from a human standpoint and in terms of investments. In fact, €30 million per year have been allocated to race in the premier class.

That is correct. From the financial, logistical and technological standpoint, MotoGP is the pinnacle of motorcycle racing. It is the Formula 1 of two wheels” the company’s CEO, Stefan Pierer pointed out in an interview with Speedweek.

KTM has the wherewithal and the ability to take on the challenge and their CV in Moto3, as in all of the offroad disciplines, speaks volumes. In MotoGP they will also have to face Japanese rivals.

We are moving in the right direction and we must be patient. In MotoGP we have a clear goal: we have a 5-year contract with Dorna, but we want to get close to the podium in three. We love racing more than ever and we like to beat the Japanese manufacturers” the KTM boss confirmed.

One of them is their specific point of reference.

“Ours is Suzuki. They have demonstrated the ability to achieve great results already in their second year” he explained.

Pierer has a clear idea about the future and the first changes can be expected as early as 2018.

In the second year, we will offer our bikes to a private team, plus we want to produce a replica of the RC16 to put on the market, even though it will not be street legal. In this first year, however, we will just focus on our work” he concluded.
