Alex Rins and Carlos Sainz challenged each other in Madrid with both bikes and cars, but remote-controlled ones. The MotoGP rider and Formula 1 drivers were special guests at an event organised by sponsor Estrella Galicia, an opportunity to look back over 2016 also look to the future.

Rins' experience with Suzuki didn't get off to the best start, as during the very first test at Valencia he crashed, injuring two vertebrae.

“I'm recovering, I've spent all this month at home with a brace - he tells us - Last Thursday I got back on a bike for training and had good feeling. Now I'm only thinking about next year, the move to MotoGP means a big change to my life in general. All riders dream of reaching the top category with a factory team. At Valencia I was able to test the Suzuki and admit that the sensations were incredible”.

The apprenticeship was cut short though, due to his injury.

“I saw it as a test in which to adapt, to see how everything worked - he continued - for that reason, I didn't use many of the electronic controls and, even like this, I noted a big difference with respect to the Moto2. I crashed on day two, which was a pity because I lost the entire day but my first experience riding a MotoGP was a fantastic one”.

Alex then commented on Rosberg's retirement.

It's understandable but I don't really get it to be honest, if you win you should continue to defend the title”, he concludes.
