The desire to get on the Ducati for the first time was too great and Lorenzo couldn't wait any longer. As soon as the green light came on in pit lane, Jorge was climbing aboard the Desmosedici to complete his first laps on the Valencia track.

The Majorcan took on the cold conditions at Valencia, riding his new steed that appears in an elegant carbon black colour, for sponsorship reasons. Lorenzo too is dressed in black, while Christian Gabarrini is already wearing official Ducati uniform as he works alongside him in the garage.

Of course, Lorenzo's initial lap times are little more than a curiosity. The first laps simply serve to allow Lorenzo to get an initial impression of the Desmosedici.

Jorge nevertheless completed his first lap in 1'40"279, before making one slow lap and then gradually dropping his lap times to record a 1'37"263.

Back in the garage, Casey Stoner awaited him. The adventure has begun.

“First impressions are very positive, now we're getting Jorge's comments - said Paolo Ciabatti -  We've made a good start. We still have two intense days ahead of us. Lorenzo is on track with the GP16 right now, seeing as we have references from the race weekend, then tomorrow we'll use the GP17. I think it's an emotional day for him, after nine years with Yamaha, but for us too. We want to make the most of these two days, getting as much done as we can”.
