Pernat: Rossi didn't have the motivation that Lorenzo had at Valencia

One of the most exciting seasons we've ever seen has drawn to a close at Valencia, a season that brought nine different race winners. Jorge Lorenzo took care of things at the final round of 2016, crossing the line ahead of Marc Marquez. Andrea Iannone rounded out the podium, having won the Italian head-to-head with Rossi.

Here's what happened over the Spanish race weekend according to Carlo Pernat.

Once again MotoGP didn't disappoint us.

“I think that Valencia was the GP of motivation. Lorenzo and Iannone were particularly motivated, given that they're leaving Yamaha and Ducati. Jorge won in his own special style, or rather leaving the group at the very first corner and finishing the race alone, proving to be the most complete rider. Andrea, on the other hand, put on a great show with the Ducati at an unfavourable track”.

Lorenzo and Iannone then bade their post-race farewells.

“I think that Jorge's goodbye was a gentlemanly one. He used great, kind words, despite the atmosphere he had in the garage with Rossi. Andrea was a little more controversial, given that he wasn't coddled as he expected to be after the Misano incident, especially at these last two races”.

Valentino had to settle for fourth place.

Rossi didn't have the motivation he had at Sepang, if second place had still been to play for, perhaps he'd have run a different race. Also, we know he's never liked the track”.

Some expected more from Vinales.

“Maverick wanted to finish as well as possible, but the Suzuki is still not competitive at certain tracks”.

What's your overall opinion about Michelin's return?

“We need to put in a good word. This year there were 70 crashes in the races compared to 69 with the Bridgestones last year, considering the 14 in Holland in the wet. So we can say that it hasn't been such a negative season, despite certain developments made in a different way, which gave certain teams an advantage over others in specific situations”.
