During Eicma 2016, Yamaha Motor Europe N.V. has launched its new YZF-R6 Race Ready, a bike clearly inspired by the YZR-M1, in terms of both technology and its R-Series design. This is, as the name suggests, a race-ready bike, the first step for customers looking to compete on the track next year. With regard to the FIM Supersport World Championship, the Japanese manufacturer will participate with the GRT Yamaha Official WorldSSP Team, and riders Lucas Mahias and Federico Caricasulo, and with the Kallio Yamaha Supported WorldSSP Team, with riders Niki Tuuli and Sheridan Morais. The bike respects international regulations of course, with modifications made to the cylinder head, gearing, suspension, electronics and brake discs.
R-SERIES DESIGN - We've already spoken at length about the YZF-R6. Its look is evidently inspired by latest-generation MotoGP and WorldSBK models, particularly in terms of the front air vent, similar to that of the M1, and the two front LED lights, as per the YZF-R1. At first glance, it is clear to see that this bike is a member of the R-series family.
AERODYNAMICS - The new YZF-R6 boasts particularly advanced aerodynamics, with an 8% increase in efficiency with respect to the YZF-R1. The new Ywata 600 also shows off a new magnesium rear frame that is 20 mm narrower towards the seat, thus improving the riding position in the tank area. The riding position is further enhanced with a redesigned seat that now allows for more rapid rider movement.
ELECTRONIC - There are a lot of electronics on this bike, starting with the Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) and the Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) to increase and improve the “force” at average speed. The new YZF-R6 also boasts a cutting-edge Traction Control System (TCS), where intervention levels can be adjusted with a switch on the handlebar. Anything else? Yes, there's the new Quick Shift System (QSS). The system, similar to that of the YZF-R1, intervenes during up and down shifting, completing 'cutting' clutch intervention.
COMPONENTS - This racing version clearly offers a low more. We have a fairing composed of two front pieces and a single rear piece, a complete Akrapovic Evo full Titanium system, two Brembo 320 mm T-drive discs, a single Brembo 220 mm disc, a 43 mm Ohlins fork with Cartridge kit, and, lastly, it is equipped with Pirelli Diablo tyres (120/70 ZR17M/C at the front and 180/55 ZR17M/C at the rear) in line with the supersport regulation.
