SBK, Savadori: "Top five in 2017? I'll try"

Lorenzo, after a rookie season with Iodaracing's Aprilia, will move to team Milwaukee alongside expert rider Eugene Laverty

Savadori: "Top five in 2017? I'll try"

For Lorenzo Savadori, 23 years old and from Cesena, his first season in SBK on the Aprilia of team Iodaracing has been fundamental, for at least two reasons:  the first, for Lorenzo himself who, race after race has learned the tricks of the trade; the second motivation is that #32 has proved to be one of the most promising Italian riders right now, and not just in the production-derived series.

Lorenzo, who would you define your rookie SBK season?

I've had a positive season and have learned a great deal, because the jump from Superstock to SBK is not a simple one to make. The bikes might seem the same but the details make a big difference... the tyres, first of all, the more advanced electronics, the engine power... there are also two races each weekend and they are longer, physical preparation is very important”.

How do you prepare for the races?

Aside from testing with the bike, I run, go cycling, swim... I keep fit by doing various sports that I enjoy, not just things that wear me out”.

What's been the hardest aspect to sort with your RSV4?

Rather that one single aspect, to get an SBK to go fast you need various areas to be working in harmony, from the frame to the electronics, the tyres to the suspension. Anyway, the phase of the race in which I struggle most is when the tank is emptier and the tyres start to slide; in that situation, I've had to fight many times and I've worked to improve there”.

Looking ahead to 2017, what are your thoughts?

“I can't wait for it to start! The bike will still be the Aprilia RSV4, a bike I adore! My new team, Milwaukee, is a strong, professional, demanding outfit, I'll definitely learn a lot and hope to be even faster”.

Are you worried about your new team-mate, Eugene Laverty?

I don't know Eugene well but I can say he's a very strong rider... in the past, he's come close to the title, on the Aprilia, and has won many races in SBK. I'll definitely have a team-mate who is a point of reference in this category, and I feel ready for the challenge”.

Who do you see doing better next year between Kawasaki and Ducati?

Rea has won the title, that's a fact. Chaz has had an exceptional second half of the season, but Rea was able to manage his advantage”.

Lorenzo Savadori in the top five in 2017?

“Well, I cannot say or promise anything. It will be a very interesting championship, with new bikes and riders on the grid. As for me... my aim will be to continue to grow as a rider, in every situation and in terms of every technique and experience... and as soon as I have a chance, I'll go for it”.
