KTM plays its ace at EICMA 2016, or rather, it unchains its beast! What? The 1290 Super Duke R of course, the road-eating animal that now sports an even more aggressive look and with an extra four horsepower, bringing it to a total of 177 HP! Truly monstrous for a naked and a number that ensures its status as king of its segment.

LOOK – The 1290 Super Duke R now shows off its aggressive side more than ever before, thanks to a bolder, stronger design, particularly in terms of the front with LED lights already seen on the latest 1290 Super Adventure presented at Intermot 2016. Daytime lights, as is now the fashion, but also a slimmer 'body', as angular as ever thanks to the new spoilers and tank air-duct, and a narrower, more pointed tail. There is also TFT instrumentation and updated graphics.

177 HP – The heart of the beast now beats even harder, thanks to work carried out on the LC8 engine. The twin now boasts an extra four horsepower, for a total of 177 HP at 9.750 rpm, despite it now being Euro4, thanks in particular to new combustion chambers, redesigned to ensure clean and linear power delivery at low-medium speed. Then there are two “holiday” packages: Performance Pack and Track Pack. The first sees the addition of the MSR (Motor Slip Regulation), quick shift in both acceleration and down-shifting and KTM My Ride, or a speaker kit to allow the rider to answer calls. The second includes the “Track” Ride mode that allows the rider to select the engine mapping, switch off the anti-wheelie and modify the MTC and launch control.

CHASSIS – while the frame remains the same, everything else changes. The suspension sees a new 48 mm WP fork with separate damping circuit, more rigid springs and, in general, a more sporty set-up. The WP single-shock undergoes similar treatment and now has a more rigid spring. To brake the beast are Brembo monoblock callipers that work together with the Bosch ABS, which also controls the MSC system. Tyres are Metzeler M7RR.
