MotoGP, Lorenzo: "I'm competitive in all conditions"

Jorge third in qualifying: "with the heat and grip, I'm also confident in the wet"

Lorenzo: "I'm competitive in all conditions"

Saturday at Sepang sees Jorge Lorenzo finally competitive in the wet too. It had been a while since we saw him at the sharp end in these conditions, but a front row start is a clear indication as to how he may perform in tomorrow's race.

“Unfortunately I wasn't able to make a race simulation in the dry. The only problem with the track is that it takes a long time for the asphalt to dry out. The grip is perfect, I'm confident and think I can be competitive in all conditions”.

How did qualifying go?

“I chose to push right from the start, going on the attack without thinking too much. The pace was good, but was not enough for pole. I'm pleased anyway, because I'm fast with the heat and the right grip”.

How are you feeling about the race?

In the dry, four of us have similar pace, I got on well in FP4 but the situation in the race may change quickly depending on the conditions ”.

You've often struggled in the wet. Today it was different.

I don't think it's true that I'm not strong in the wet. Unfortunately I've sometimes struggled with the Michelins but in the past I've often been on the podium. The problem is the confidence I have with the bike, when you're lacking in confidence it's hard to be competitive”.

Does today's qualifying serve as a confidence boost after some difficult races?

“In this sport everyone focuses on the last races. People only talk when things are not going well, I don't think that's right. I think I've proved to be strong in all conditions”.
