Marquez: I'm not well but I'll be here tomorrow

Who thought it would be gastroenteritis to stop Marc Marquez. Yes, you heard correctly! After setting the fastest time in FP1, the Spaniard was forced to wave the white flag , sitting out the afternoon session at Sepang.

I've had it for two days now. This morning I was able to ride, but I definitely wasn't 100%. After the effort of the morning I felt worse, dehydrated”.

Didn't you think it was worth taking part in FP2?

“I saw the track conditions and realised I didn't need to ride. I think it's best to rest and regain my strength for tomorrow and Sunday with the intention of improving”.

With Marquez out of the game, it was down to Hiroshi Aoyama to carry the Honda flag. The Japanese rider closed the afternoon in tenth place.

“This morning I tried to gain confidence with the bike in the dry. I then made a small change and we saw an improvement, but I only got three laps in before the session's end”.

A positive day overall though?

“I think there's great room for improvement. In the afternoon, we knew which direction to take but the rain conditioned our work. We were able to work with the rain tyres anyway, using the soft and medium”.

How are the tyres?

“I had a good feeling with both and was more competitive than I was this morning. I also used the intermediate for the first time. I hope conditions tomorrow are more stable so that we can work on the bike setting”.
