MotoGP, Marquez: my goal is the podium, not the win

Marquez: my goal is the podium, not the win

It's a legitimate question - will Marquez really settle tomorrow, thinking about the title, and let the Yamahas win? This season, Marc has at times considered the mathematics but he has also known the right time to go on the attack.

His words leave us in no doubt: “my goal tomorrow is the podium rather than the win”.

Whether this is really true or not, we do not know.

What do I expect? A hard battle with Valentino and Lorenzo - he explains - They are the strongest, but at the same time I know I can stick with them”.

Yet there is a chance for him to lift the Motegi curse, a track at which he's never won a GP.

This morning I was really pleased - he comments - Also yesterday I was fast, but didn't have the right sensation on the bike. This has always been one of the hardest tracks for us, pole would have been something else, but the front row is good too”.

Also because the flying lap is not his strong point.

With the new tyres I struggle more, particularly in braking while I can manage them better once they're used- he says - In fact, on my second exit, I made some mistakes. I could have made one more good lap, but I saw the yellow flags and remembered Silverstone in 2013 (when he risked hitting Crutchlow's bike and the marshals after a crash). I preferred to slow down rather than take any risks”.
