Petrucci and Redding: we are only adversaries

The anger has subsided, but Petrucci and Redding have certainly not patched things up. At Aragón, Danilo had made contact with his teammate on the first lap, causing a crash. Scott had attacked the Italian harshly and there has been no really clearing of the air between the two.

I have not spoken to Danilo. We only exchanged greetings this morning at breakfast - says Redding - He did not come over to apologise and I don’t feel like I need to reach out to him. Relationships can change over time and in the end, I am only here for myself. I am a professional. At Aragón I was very angry, but that episode is part of the past, although I hope it never happens again.

Scott has definitely not changes his mind about what happened.

Danilo pulled a stupid stunt - he comments, without mincing words - The entire team paid for it. We didn’t bring home even one point and we didn’t have any TV exposure. It was just a waste of money.

Petrucci, for his part, dots the ‘i’s and gives his version of what happened.

“The incident at Aragón weighed heavily on me and I am very sorry to have involved Redding - he explains - But I am not entirely responsible for what happened. I had a problem with the ECU but we didn’t catch it on the starting grid. In fact, after three or four laps something similar to what happened with Bautista happened to me. I didn’t touch Scott, I just forced him outside and he fell trying to get back onto the track.

An apology, however, would have been appreciated.

After the race, Scott came up to me without even taking off his helmet: he pushed me and said ‘thanks’ - he recounts - Then he issued some very harsh statements. We simply have different ideas about what happened. In the end, we share the garage but we do not play on the same team.

Petrucci does not even feel that he deserved the ride-through that Race Direction inflicted on him.

“That is a penalty that has never been seen. The reason is that I had a similar incident with Laverty, but that time I was wrong and I apologised straight away.” Then Danilo rediscovers his smile and jokes: “Miller even made fun of me and said that now I’m the most dangerous rider, not him, and Crutchlow has branded me as being too ambitious. Everything aside, I just want to forget what happened now.
