Magny-Cours, Davies: the best result of my career!

The Welshman and his Ducati #7 do the double in France. After winning yesterday's race 1 on a wet track, Chaz was able to repeat that performance in today's dry conditions, crossing the line ahead of the two Kawasakis. The end of a memorable weekend at the Magny-Cours track, the backdrop to this eleventh championship round, in which Davies has scored his seventh win of the season.

Third on the grid, Davies got away well, along with the Kawasakis of Sykes and Rea. The gap between him and the leading pair was never more than two seconds and, thanks to a consistent race pace, Davies was able to catch the pair five laps from the finish line. Having got past both his rivals at turn 5 on lap 17, the Welshman went on to set his fastest lap of the race (1'38.185) on the very next lap, building enough of an advantage to cross the line in first place. With two rounds left to run, Davies is now 33 points from second-placed rider Sykes in the standings.

“It wasn’t easy to win today - declares Davies after Race 2 - I took the opportunity when it came, but honestly I didn’t think it was going to happen. I was struggling early on, doing the same pace as on Friday in the mid 1’38 mark. I was also finding it hard to pass the Kawasakis, as I couldn’t see where to do it unless I took a big risk, so I had to let the race come to me a little bit..."

A tactic that paid off for the Ducati rider: "It did eventually, and as Jonathan and Tom pushed each other wide at the hairpin, I just took the opportunity and dropped the hammer to put some distance in between myself and them. It’s been one of the most important weekends of my career, because we won in very different conditions, reaping the fruits of a lot of hard work with the whole team.”
