Maverick Viñales is sincere when he comments on his front row at Aragón, second only to an unbeatable Marquez. “I would never have expected a result like this after FP4”, where he was 6th. Instead, in qualifying he was able to draw out the best of himself and his Suzuki, despite the fact that the Spanish track is not the best match for the characteristics of the GSX-RR.
“The problem is the slow corners. I struggle there to get the bike to turn - he explains - It is definitely not the best track for us. However, I know that we need another step forward to be able to compete well in the race. Right now I do not have the pace to stay with Marquez.”
But Viñales has clear ideas and hopes that the weather tomorrow will give him a hand.
“Of one thing I am certain: when the temperatures drop I am faster, whereas with the heat I am not as good.”
That said, like everyone else, he will need to choose the tyres well.
“We are always at the limit in our choice, but this time I have a clear idea - he says - With the heat, the harder option is definitely the best on the front, but the rear will be more critical for race distance.”
