Then he jokes about the scene with Marquez during qualifying: "I didn't want to tow him". And on the race: "I have the pace to win"

Lorenzo: the best lap of my life

"You always have the impression that the last pole position was the best of your life, but I really think that this one was". Jorge Lorenzo is not lying, because the 1’31”868 he set allowed him to achieve several goals, the pole, the track record and he's now the rider with the most career poles (64, Rossi and Marquez are on 63). It couldn't have gone any better and goes a long way towards making up for recent disappointments.

"Perhaps it was the best lap of my life. I risked more than normal but the risk was worth it - he admits - But I'm particularly pleased because little by little I've been able to improve my M1 over the weekend. The tyres gave us some trouble, but when they worked, my pace was similar to Marquez's, and even faster".

Speaking of Marc, the two were involved in a comical scene during qualifying, as they worked out who'd go out on track in front of the other.

"Honestly I didn't want to tow him” Lorenzo says.

In the end he succeeded in snatching pole and is ready for tomorrow's race.

I'm sure I have the pace to win and also have a clear idea about the tyres but... I'm not saying - he continues - I don't know if my qualifying time worries Valentino, you'd have to ask him, but I know it's one thing to do a fast lap and quite another to have good pace in the race, But the pole gives me confidence”.

However, he does have some reservations about the Michelins.

Also with Bridgestone we'd sometimes get a tyre that didn't work, but last week at Silverstone it happened to me twice - he recalls - First in practice and then in the race, the tyre was spinning on the wheel. I hope everything goes OK tomorrow”.
