2017 Calendar: MotoGP and F1 begin simultaneously

Mark this date: 26 March 2017. It could be a very demanding date for motoring fans because both the MotoGP and the Formula 1 championships may begin on that day.

Some coinciding dates between the two premier motorsport categories is nothing new (in fact, this weekend the bikes are racing at Silverstone and the cars at Monza), but a parallel season start is unusual. It is true that the F1 season will begin in Australia and MotoGP in Qatar, so the time zone difference will prevent overlapping, but the first GP of the season is always a particular round and media space - besides the available time fans have - is not infinite.

For the moment they are only unconfirmed reports and the official calendar drafts have not been published, but it would seem that the decision has already been made. Drafting a calendar is no simple task, but having the two top motorsport formulas coincide - even at a distance - is not a good idea.

Perhaps there is still time to change the plans.
