MotoGP, Marquez: "I've already decided on the race tyres"

But the Spaniard warns: "We need to work on the electronics, so that we don't destroy the rear tyre"

Marquez: "I've already decided on the race tyres"

One thing is certain - the top riders were on the back foot today at Silverstone. This goes for Lorenzo, and Rossi, as well as championship leader, Marc Marquez. The Spaniard preferred to work on the tyres and set-up during the opening sessions, finding the direction for Sunday. At the end of the afternoon he was lying fifth, more than eight tenths from the leader.

A morning on the up.

“We know it's a long and difficult track, with a number of bumps, in fact we're complaining about the same set-up issues as last year. Tomorrow we'll try to take some steps forward. Unfortunately, this morning we made a small mistake, starting with the medium rear tyre, and I struggled, I was slow and crashed too. Now we'll analyse everything ahead of tomorrow".

In the afternoon you made a different tyre choice.

“I went with the hard, I don't think anyone used it before the final exit. Michelin said that the medium and the hard are practically the same. The hard is better suited to my style, and I got on better. I still have to understand the soft, because the bike moves around too much. Nevertheless I think the hard rear tyre is what we'll use leading up to the race".

The track is pretty uneven in certain sections, is this another pitfall?

“This is a beautiful long track, where there are always a lot of bumps. Unfortunately, we can't do anything about it. It's a critical situation and we'll talk about it in race direction”.

What are you still missing?

“We need to work on the set-up, particularly through the long corners and also in the changes of direction. With the electronics, we need to pay attention that the rear tyre doesn't wear too quickly. Of course we also have to consider the weather, which could change the situation”.

Vinales was fast once again.

“Maverick was very quick, showing that he has a very agile bike. We're only at the start of the weekend and many changes can still change. We've seen that anything can happen in this championship”.

Daniel Pedrosa is also inside the top ten, appearing to have shaken off his Brno difficulties. The Spaniard is hoping for a step forward tomorrow.

“Luckily this morning wasn't as cold as it was in Austria and so I could push, without having to stop. The weather also gave us a hand. My only goal was to complete as many laps as possible”.

What are you expecting tomorrow?

“I've worked on the medium and soft rears, finding good sensations. I'm quite pleased with the setting, but we'll see what happens. We need to take steps forward, without having to make excessive changes to the bike".
