Alex Lowes to replace Smith at Silverstone and Misano

Bradley Smith will miss both the Silverstone and Misano Grand Prix. The crash suffered during free practice at the Oschersleben 8 Hours has left the British rider with sprained ligaments in his right knee, which unfortunately forces him to take time out to recover.

As we already reported yesterday, Alex Lowes had offered to replace Smith and team Tech3 has accepted his proposal. The winner of the Suzuka 8 Hours, and SBK factory Yamaha rider, will thus ride Smith's M1 at both Silverstone and Misano.

Alex had chance to test the Iwata MotoGP bike during testing at Brno, though it was little more than a taster. He completed just 15 laps, closing the brief session with a crash. Moving from SBK to MotoGP is no simple talk, but Lowes was able to record some interesting times during the few laps that he did complete.
