MotoGP, Alvaro Bautista on Aspar Martinez' Ducati from 2017

The Spaniard returns home after eight years, back with the team with which he triumphed in 125

Alvaro Bautista on Aspar Martinez' Ducati from 2017

Just a few final scenes to be played out and then the curtain will fall on a 2016 season that has seen market talk take centre stage. With Aleix Espargarò arriving in Aprilia, it is time for Alvaro Bautista to bid farewell to the Italian team. The Spaniard will start over in 2017 with Aspar Martinez' team. A 'homecoming', eight years later, to the team with which the Spaniard won the 125 title in 2006, before coming so close to it in the 250 class in 2008.

After adventures in the reigning class with Suzuki, Honda and Aprilia, next year we will see him on the Ducati: “I am happy to be returning to what was my home for many years - he stated - with Aspar we won the 125cc World Championship title and came close to another title in 250cc. It will be a new experience, and I'm therefore extremely motivated and confident that with this team we can be competitive in 2017.”

The team principal is also very pleased with the decision: “We are of course very happy about Alvaro's return – declared Aspar Martinez – we have a great relationship with him and I know we'll do our best to score some great results for Ducati in the future”.

No decision has yet been taken as to Alvaro's team-mate, but Colombian rider Yonny Hernandez is currently the favourite over Eugene Laverty.
