MotoGP, Marquez: not winning is not a big tragedy

Marc is in pole position and is also reasoning: "I am riding more carefully than ever. The race? Rossi is very close, as is Pedrosa."

Marquez: not winning is not a big tragedy

It’s nice to be at the Sachsenring if your name is Marc Marquez. In 2010, when he raced in the 125 class, he started a positive streak of pole positions that he continued again today. The full four tenths of a second ahead of Barbera and the half a second ahead of Valentino are a testament that in Germany, the little devil plays a different sport.

“That isn’t exactly the case – he corrects – I am happy about this pole position because in FP4 I didn’t have the best sensations. We made a lot of changes and we strayed a bit from the right path, but we got back onto the right one for the qualifiers.

There is a big gap ahead of your adversaries …
On the flying lap, but in race setup, Rossi is not far off. His pace is similar to mine. The same also goes for Pedrosa, who will start from behind, though.

What is the strategy for tomorrow?
The weather could be another adversary. Rain would be an unknown for everyone, whereas with low temperatures I feel better.

It has been a long time since you won. 5 races have come and gone …
Winning is always something different. At Barcelona and Mugello I had tried, whereas at Assen it was a different situation. Tomorrow I’ll try, but it wouldn’t be a tragedy if it doesn’t happen. In any case, the podium is the minimum goal.

How do you explain Pedrosa’s difficulties this season?
Dani is not having one of his best moments. When you struggle and the results don’t come it gets hard to find the right motivation. Although, in FP4 he was just a thousandth behind my time.

For you, on the other hand, everything is going your way…
I started off well this year, but I am riding more carefully than ever and being aggressive when I need to.

The Honda seems not to be very stable at certain spots on the track. Why?
Certain movements are triggered by the electronics, which is unable to keep it still. You need to manage the situation with the throttle, but it is complicated. It happens coming out of turn 10, but also at other spots, and tomorrow I’ll need to be careful.”

At a certain point, in free practice, you risked contact with Iannone. What happened?
I was in my out lap and I didn’t realise how fast he was going. I got out of the way at the last minute. I don’t think I blocked him. In any case, afterward he slowed down and let me overtake him to follow me. I’d say we’re even (he laughs).”
