Sachsenring: quick start for Nakagami

The Moto2 class was the first to take the stage on the ninth weekend of the season at the German Sachsenring track, where for the first half hour only a few riders left pit lane to achieve any significant times due to the asphalt that was not entirely dry, but not completely wet.

Only in the last 15 minutes did we see traffic on the track when the riders decided to use slicks. The first one out was world champion Johann Zarco. The trajectories began to rubberise and lap times began to drop. The session took on the feel of a sort of mini-qualifier, and finishing at the top was Japanese rider Takaaki Nakagami, winner of the last race in the Netherlands, the first for him, who still appears to be in good form and his 1’25”377 was the benchmark for the Moto2 morning session.

Johann Zarco also lapped fast. He was, as mentioned above, the first to risk going out and his gap behind the Japanese rider was around four tenths, not much, also taking into consideration the heavy traffic the Frenchman had on the track with him during his “good” lap. He is in excellent form, after making his switch to MotoGP next year with the Tech3 team official.

Behind the world champion was Spaniard Alex Rins, third with a time of 1’25”785. After the rider from Pons, with the fourth best time, was Brit Sam Lowes. These top four riders represent the quality currently on the track and from fifth to seventh place we find Italians Lorenzo Baldassarri, Franco Morbidelli and Simone Corsi, all within a few hundredths of a second and just behind the leaders.

Eighth and ninth place for the hometown heroes, German riders Marcel Schrotter and Jonas Folger, who stayed ahead of Alex Marquez, tenth and fresh from signing with the Marc VDS team. Another German in the top 15 is Sandro Cortese with the twelfth best time. Mattia Pasini finished thirteenth andworth a mention is the 24th place by Luca Marini, making his début on the Sachsenring, as well as Remy Gardner, twenty-fifth at more than two seconds behind Nakagami’s best lap.
