MotoGP, Michelin on the Sachsenring with asymmetrical tyres

This solution will be used for the first time on the front as well as on the rear

Michelin on the Sachsenring with asymmetrical tyres

The Sachsenring is a peculiar track: it is the shortest on the calendar with its 3,671 metres, but it has no less than 10 left-handers and only 3 right-handers. This is a serious dilemma for the tyres, specifically for the front.

This is why Michelin will be taking an asymmetrical front tyre to Germany for the first time. These tyres were designed to meet the demands of the Sachsenring, with a compound on the left side capable of withstanding the stress.

This asymmetrical tyre will be available in both a soft and hard solution, whereas for the medium option a symmetrical tyre was selected.

As for the choices on the rear, two options will be available: medium and hard, both asymmetrical tyres.

The Sachsenring is a track that demands a lot of the tyres, taking them to high temperatures – explains Michelin manager Piero TaramassoThinking of this, we created completely new compounds, made for this track. This will be the first time that we have asymmetrical rear tyres with a left side that can withstand the high temperatures and a right side the can come up to temperature quickly. It will also be the first time that we will supply asymmetrical front tyres.
