Laguna Seca, Rea: "Happy, but it wasn't my best race"

First and second on the grid and first and second over the finish line, albeit in reverse order. Team Kawasaki couldn't have done much better than that at Laguna Seca, sending their rivals another clear message. A dominant performance, though the Ducati men did make an attempt to ruin the party for the men in green.

For Jonathan Rea the Race 1 win is his first at the Californian track. A victory that brings him ever closer to his second consecutive title, with Rea now holding a 71-point lead over his team-mate. Despite this, Johnny still has regrets: "I'm really happy with the win but it wasn't my best race to be honest". He goes on to explain: "I made a lot of small mistakes and know that, looking back, I can't be totally satisfied with myself. The important thing was to win anyway, and so I'm pleased about that, especially with the way the bike behaved over race distance. We have a good set-up - he concluded- but we can do better, based on the data collected today".

Tom Sykes has few regrets despite having hoped to do more than second. Tom realises that when Rea shows this kind of form, it's difficult to do more: "I'm quite pleased, and to be honest I couldn't do more. Jonathan put together a good race and all we can do is accept that and try to improve our bike for race 2". The former world champion cited some problems with his Ninja in the opening stages of the race: "I had to battle, losing out in some places and trying to make up for that in others".

The aim for race 2 is clear: "We have room to improve, we'll make some adjustments to try to improve in those areas where I was struggling most"
