Ducati SS: the return of an icon

A 937cc twin-cylinder, with a frame deriving from the Monster, a legend that returns to the fore and goes up against the Honda VFR 800F

Moto - News: Ducati SS: the return of an icon

'Unveiled' at WDW, the Super Sport is back on the scene and lines up against the VFR 800F as a sports road bike par excellence. Almost ten years have passed since the bike was launched, a bike that made history for the Ducati brand. Produced from 1988, with a characteristic air-cooled engine, it derived from the eariler Pantah series, recalling in its name the Super Sport of 1973 with 'round carters', later presented in other versions with "square carters" in 750 and 900cc versions, as well as the Pantah SS series.

Now, after the latest version created by Pierre Terblanche produced up until 2007, Ducati has decided to relaunch an iconic bike that exploits the technical background of other models, presenting itself to the fans as an extra weapon in the Ducati brand's already rich catalogue.

From pictures doing the rounds on the internet, you can see the "Panigale style" when it comes to the front section and lights. To this we add a decidely less sporty seat, with portions for the rider and passenger that are designed for comfort. The frame is derived from the Monster, while the engine will probably be the 113 HP liquid-cooled 937 cc, already seen on the Hypermotard, softened here in terms of its supply.

Its essentially road-going vocation is further underlined by the raised handlebars and a plexiglass with a less than prominent profile, able to provide protection even on long trips.

The new Super Sport will be launched at the autumn trade show, with a price that (we guess) should come in at less than 14,000 euro, placing itself in the same category as the VFR800F, with the bonus of having a more sporty stamp, in line with the SS tradition.
