To celebrate the 90th anniversary of its inception, the Borgo Panigale based Manufacturer has decided to unveil the new 1299 Panigale S Anniversario as a global sneak peek at World Ducati Week 2016. Ridden by a special testimonial, Casey Stoner, the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario was unveiled in a sneak peek on the stage of the Santamonica stadium at Misano Adriatico with Claudio Domenicali in attendance.

ULTRA FINE TECHNOLOGY - The technical content that make this "Anniversario" an exclusive vehicle is brand new. It begins with the colours inspired by those

on the vehicles used in MotoGP with the white, black and Ducati Red fairing combined with the gold colour of the wheel rims. Distinctive elements of the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario are the upper steering yoke (numbered with a laser incision) and the adjustable steering bushings (+o- 5mm of trail) in billet aluminium alloy. In addition, a lightweight lithium battery, along with the heel guards, the carbon fibre rear mudguard and the shock absorber cover, contribute to a weight reduction of 2.5 kg.

The 1299 Panigale S Anniversario features a brand new version of Ducati Traction Control (DTC) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) called EVO, in addition to the already well-known Cornering ABS and the up/down Quick Shift gearbox (DQS).

The engine is the well-known 1,285 cm³ 205 HP Superquadro, equipped with Engine Brake Control (EBC) to optimise vehicle stability going into corners, whereas the suspension is entrusted to the Ducati Electronic Suspension (DES) and Öhlins Smart EC, an event-based control system that uses step motors to manage the suspension setup during the riding phases.

To emphasise the sporty features of the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario, on purchase and along with the bike, a racing kit is provided made up of an Akrapovic Racing exhaust, an aluminium cover for the mirror mount holes and a cover for the hole left when the license plate bracket is removed to ride on the track. Lastly, a battery charger is also provided. The 1299 Panigale S Anniversario is available from mid-July at a price of €29,590 (not including road tax and registration).

DTC EVO, HOW DOES IT WORK?  - The system is based on a brand new algorithm that makes operation more accurate and faster. It interfaces with the Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), measuring the bike's lean angle at all times, using it to more accurately assess the intervention needed to guarantee ideal sliding for the rear tyre (based on the selected DTC EVO level), providing greater precision. The DTC EVO system also introduces intervention of the throttle body valves, in addition to managing the ignition and injection advance. In all situation where no quick intervention by the DTC EVO system is not required, the use of the throttle body valves ensures optimum combustion parameters, achieving a smoother engine response and operation.

The system intervenes with "conventional" traction control when rear tyre sliding is detected. When optimum grip returns, the system reduces intervention until sliding is detected again. This translates into a graphic that illustrates intervention oscillations around a theoretical "ideal intervention line" that represents traction limits. This type of performance is particularly beneficial in situations where grip changes, such as in the event of rear tyre wear.

In addition to this more accurate intervention, when set to level "1" or “2”, the DTC EVO system adds a new feature that provides new control modes:

when the bike is in a lean, the rider can use the throttle to demand greater sliding than the normal intervention level in order to allow the bike to close the trajectory of the turn, pivoting on the front wheel. The DTC EVO system allows this keeping the safety parameters under control, allowing all the effects of closing the trajectory with the rear wheel.

Working in conjunction with the DTC EVO system is the DWC EVO system which, using the information from the Bosch IMU, controls wheelies and allows maximum safe acceleration of the 1299 Panigale S Anniversario. Using an entirely new software, DWC EVO more accurately detects wheelies and their severity, intervening with stronger and more precise control.
