"Ducati Globetrotter 90°" departs from Borgo Panigale

An around-the-world trip for seven bikers, chosen from among more than 3000 applicants

Moto - News:

The success of World Ducati Week 2016, with its 81,000 visitors and global resonance, was a significant birthday "gift" for Ducati. And just a few hours after returning from Misano, the Ducatisti Community was ready to enjoy another key moment in the company's celebrations, on the 4 July itself, the day on which the Company was founded ninety years ago (1926/2016).

Wearing red t-shirts, dedicated to the ninetieth anniversary, all of Ducati's employees celebrated with the cutting of a cake, before waving off the first torch-bearer of Globetrotter 90°. This is an around-the-world trip for seven bikers, selected from among more than 3000 applicants and ready to take turns riding the Multistrada 1200 Enduro as they complete the 30,000 km that make up this great journey, taking on roads and locations that have contributed to writing the first 90 years of Ducati history.

The first globetrotter is Indian Vir Nakai, 37, biker and experienced traveller, who received the torch directly from CEO Claudio Domenicali, before leaving from via Cavalieri Ducati in the direction of Moscow where, on 29 July, he will hand over to the second of the seven travellers. The torch is a symbol of Ducati passion, and will cross the five continents with its positive and passionate message. A refined object created by the Ducati Design Centre in titanium, using the technology of additive manufacturing, the torch is composed of two shells that close to create a shape inspired by the Ducati trellis. Inside is a camera that will collect the experiences and memories of the globetrotters' travels. So a torch that really experiences the trip and returns it to Borgo Panigale where it will be made available to all the fans.

There to wave off the first biker/torch-bearer were also 160 representatives of the D.O.C - Desmo Owners Clubs, from 36 nations. The D.O.Cs arrived by bike of course, coming directly from Misano Adriatico (RN) and WDW2016 which took place from 1 to 3 July.

The start of Globetrotter 90° is a very symbolic moment for the Company, as today, on 4 July 2016, the Ducati employees, the many D.O.Cs, who are Ducati's core community, and the departure of the Indian Globetrotter have the strength to identify the history, present and future of this motorcycle manufacturer, increasingly focused on achieving significant goals.
