Davies: “Forced to recover after making contact”

Misano, expected to be a sort of “second Imola”, where Chaz Davies would dominate and do the double for team Ducati Aruba, proved to be rather more difficult today, with both Davies and Giugliano forced to recover after, respectively, losing ground and crashing.

Starting from the third row surely didn't facilitate the situation for the two Ducatisti and this result in practice conditioned their race, which started with an upward climb. At the start, Davies was involved in various contacts which caused him to run off track, leading to a subsequent recovery from twenty-second to fourth place, basically a great race, ruined by the fact he ran off track: “I made contact with someone and was forced to run off track, making my race very difficult... these things happen in racing, also because starting in the middle of the group makes it more difficult at the start of the race."

Nevertheless, you made a great recovery and had the sort of pace worthy of the podium.Yes, the positive thing was the recovery that proved how fast we were today. The podium wasn't a mirage, on the contrary, I could have been there if it hadn't been for that contact. I had fun riding but tomorrow, if we can make a good start, we'll be able to fight with the others at the front”.

Davide Giugliano was going well and was lying third when he fell victim to a crash that saw his hopes of a podium go up in smoke. The Italian had to settle for final fourteenth place, scoring just two points for the championship: “I made a good start and was on course for a great result but I crashed... I'm really sorry, both for me and the team; luckily the bike only suffered damage to the front fairing and I was able to continue the race”.

Despite the crash, you were very fast today…Yes, it's true, once I got into my rhythm, in the final phase we were as fast as the frontrunners... we're competitive and tomorrow will go a lot better for us because we have the pace”.
