SBK, Yamaha Pata with Canepa for the Misano round

The Italian will stand in for Sylvain Guintoli, still recovering after his Imola injury

Yamaha Pata with Canepa for the Misano round

A tweet on Monday confirmed he would not take part in the Misano round. Sylvain Guintoli's physical condition will not allow him to return to his bike just yet. With the Frenchman forced to sit it out, Yamaha Pata has chosen Niccolò Canepa as a replacement at round 8 of the production-derived series, taking place this coming weekend at the track dedicated to Marco Simoncelli.

Having stood in for Riccardo Russo at Imola in the Stock1000,  he now climbs on the factory R1, fresh from last Saturday's win in the Portimao 12 Hours. The Genoan rider is very pleased: “I'm really happy to return to World Superbikes with the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team – he said - after the STK1000 podium and the World Endurance win, this is really a great gift. It will be a great opportunity to race in front of my home crowd – he added - especially following the tests we carried out at Misano ten days ago. The level of the championship is particularly high - he concluded - but I will do my best. I'm sorry that Guintoli cannot take part, but he will be with us, following the team and adding value. I wish him a speedy recovery”.
