Viñales: goodbye to Suzuki? I might cry

A Suzuki hadn't been on the MotoGP since Brno in 2008. Back then it was Loris Capirossi, today it's Maverick Vinales. The Spanish talent received the compliments of Lorenzo, “he was helped out my the crashes but deserved the result", and Rossi, “he's already a great rider”.

France was also the setting for his first win, in 125 in 2011, “that was a special feeling, it was my debut year and no-one knew me” he recalls. Today on the other hand he's the talk of the paddock, both in terms of the result and his future.

Let's start with today: “the podium was my goal at the start of the season. I must thank everyone who has supported me and believed in me. My team and especially Kiara Fontanesi”, the motocross champion who raced in Germany today, who is also his girlfriend.

For Maverick the race didn't start in the best way.

I didn't make a great start, then I regained my focus and my pace - he explains - After Marquez and Dovi crashed, I still had some margin and was able to control Pedroa, also because my team worked well in warm-up to sort my bike. I thought about the mistake made in Argentina and I tried my best not to repeat it”.

This result, he says, won't impact on his decision between staying with Suzuki or moving to Yamaha.

“It doesn't change anything, I just need to think calmly once I'm home - he says - It's not an easy decision but every day it becomes clearer. I want to make the decision as soon as possible, because it's not easy to focus on the races when you're thinking about something else".

The choice will be a painful one.

If I were to leave, I'might cry”.
